Wizolympics 2020: Can You Help Find Our Missing Mascot?
Konichiwa! Hello there! My name is Eliana Yamamoto, and I’m a Japanese-American Magizoologist who recently moved to Japan to learn more about the magical creatures in Asia. When I found out that I was going to be one of the Junior Magical Beasts Caretakers for the 2020 Wizolympic Games in Tokyo, I got so excited. I have been waiting for a moment like this, especially since I’m relatively new to the field compared to some of the others. I’m still shocked they let me look after a Demiguise! Either way, this is my chance to prove myself, and I’m truly honored to be a part of this amazing team.
However, we had a mishap recently. Sometimes you have days when your creatures run away – it happens. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that even Mr. Scamander had these days and you’ll get through it. You always do. We wanted to introduce you to Doppo the Demiguise at the Opening Ceremonies. After all, he’s the mascot. That was the original plan, but he disappeared several weeks ago. That’s why Hayao the Hoo-hoo had to step in. We’ll be forever grateful to Hayao’s team for filling in the way they have. They’re rockstars.
Now that the Games have started, we’ve decided to extend the invitation to all of you to help us out. While Demiguises have the ability to turn invisible and can be extremely difficult to catch, you can still spot them if you know what to look out for. With the Games spread out across the wider Tokyo area, we have high hopes that one of you might spot him. We’ve heard rumors already and have been using those as leads. We’ll respond to your call when and if you see him. Can we count on you?
Here’s everything you need to know about Demiguises:
- Demiguises look like graceful apes in appearance.
- They have silky, silvery hair and doleful black eyes.
- They’re peaceful, herbivorous creatures but can bite if provoked, so be wary.
- They have a precognitive trait that allows them to foresee the next event, so try to avoid being predictable when you’re near them.
Here’s what we ask you to do if you see Doppo:
- If you think you see him, please alert the nearest Games team member.
- Everyone has been specifically trained on how to contact us should someone tell them they’ve spotted him.
- They also know how to temporarily capture him until we arrive.
- Please DO NOT attempt to do this kind of action on your own.
- You are more than welcome to remain nearby should the Games team need your assistance.
- Give us as much information as you can.
- Remain calm and don’t surprise him.
- Doppo is particularly shy and will freak out if he doesn’t know who you are.
- Everybody on staff has met him at least once or twice, so he can recognize who they are.
- Surprising him will only scare him more.
- Be kind.
- Doppo is particularly shy and will freak out if he doesn’t know who you are.
Thank you for all your help, everyone! We think he ran away because he might be overwhelmed by everything going on. We hope he’s okay and isn’t causing too much mischief out there. OH! And two more things before I forget. He loves red lollipops and has befriended a few hippogriffs. So if you see a floating red lollipop or a hippogriff being oddly sociable, look out for him. He’s probably not too far away.
We can’t wait for you to meet him at the Closing Ceremony, provided we locate him by then. Until then, enjoy the rest of the Games! We’re happy to have you here. Stay safe, practice social distancing, and don’t forget to wash your hands and wear your Bubble-Head Charm!
