New Additions to New Zealand Mint’s Classic Coin Collection
New Zealand Mint has extended its Harry Potter Classic coin collection, adding a new character to join the already-existing designs of Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, the Hogwarts Express, and Hogwarts itself.
The latest character to join this collection is the brightest witch of her age: Hermione Granger. The coin’s design is a simple close-up image of Hermione in her Hogwarts uniform casting a spell and shows the magic flowing from her wand. The set has three different versions, one costing US$95, the second costing US$800, and the most expensive costing US$2,900. All coins have Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse, meaning they are legal tender in New Zealand, so be careful not to spend them!
Each coin has a 1 oz. gold version and a 1/4 oz. gold version, with a couple (including Hermione’s) having a 1 oz. silver version as well. The collection started last year but has since grown, and we hope it will continue to do so! Prices for these coins range from US$95 to US$2,900, depending on the metal.
The coins are packaged in specially designed Harry Potter-themed boxes, with a picture of the character or setting on the back. Inside these boxes is a wooden box, designed to display your new coin. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity to prove that your coin is genuine.
In the past six months, New Zealand Mint has released over a dozen different designs from the wizarding world, including well-loved characters and settings from the series.
