Noma Dumezweni Is Set to Dive into the Deep End in “The Little Mermaid” Live-Action Adaptation
Back in 2013, MuggleNet had a lot of fun on April Fools’ Day with an article claiming that Emma Watson is set to star in a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Not too long after, there were some rumors from attentive outlets speculating that Emma Watson is, in fact, possibly starring in the famous film. Even though that didn’t end up happening, we now have some news that, when you look back, makes it seem like the MuggleNet team might have some divination skills. Noma Dumezweni, who first portrayed the role of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in the West End and on Broadway, is set to star in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid – and this time around, it’s not a rumor. Perhaps Professor Trelawney managed to teach us something after all.
There has been a lot of buzzing and excitement around the new The Little Mermaid film, and now that Dumezweni is set to be a part of this magical tale, we’re even more excited. Dumezweni will star alongside Halle Bailey (Ariel), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), and Academy Award winner Javier Bardem (King Triton). Dumezweni, who has been nominated for a Tony Award and won two Olivier Awards, will definitely feel right at home among the stellar cast.
We know you have one burning question right now: What character will Dumezweni be portraying? We feel terrible, but we have no idea, and neither do any of the other news outlets out there. The only bit of information we do have is that Dumezweni will be portraying a character that was not in the original animated movie. Who or what could that character possibly be? We have no idea about that either, but our divination skills, however limited they may be, tell us that we will know pretty soon.
Even though we don’t know a lot about Dumezweni’s role just yet, it’s really exciting to know that one of the Harry Potter alumni will be starring in the new film. Now, please excuse us while we go scour the bottom of our teacups for more clues regarding this exciting new development.
What do you think about Dumezweni being a part of the Little Mermaid adaptation? Do you think it’s cool that they added a new character, or should they have kept everything as it was in the animated film? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
