Melbourne Cast and Crew of “Cursed Child” Ready for Reopening
It has been a while since we have had much positive news to report about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with delay after delay for all the productions of the stage play in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ahead of the production’s February 25 reopening, however, the Melbourne cast of Cursed Child reunited for rehearsals. In addition to previous coverage from the Sydney Morning Herald, Wizarding World Digital was also there to report on it!
After 49 weeks away from Melbourne’s Princess Theatre, the cast members were reportedly glad to be back. Gareth Reeves, who plays Harry Potter in the production, described it as “a real mixture of feelings,” however.
It’s been 11 months since we’ve been back. I have an incredible sense of gratitude. We’re all gently searching out who we are again, listening to each other’s stories and re-finding each other. I’m very excited and thrilled to be back, but I’m not taking anything for granted. None of us are.
Lucy Goleby, who plays Ginny, described the excitement:
It is very exciting. It’s a bit like the first day of rehearsal all over again where we’re just so excited to see each other, to see the stage, to see the empty seats and imagine everyone eventually filling them. There are no words.
Reeves also noted that the Melbourne cast of Cursed Child is in a fortunate position.
I’m feeling for all the companies around the world who aren’t back, so I feel very privileged.
Performances from the Broadway production of Cursed Child, for instance, remain postponed and have yet to be rescheduled at this time. For those who can’t get to the theater to see Cursed Child in person right now, the official Twitter account of the Melbourne production has promised its followers plenty of extras this week!
