Two Brothers Re-Create Scene from “Harry Potter” for World Book Day Competition
World Book Day is almost here for 2021. We all know that it’s going to look a little different this year, but that hasn’t stopped the chance for creativity – especially among book lovers. A competition for World Book Day has been organized by online retailer Bargain Max. The competition has asked children in the United Kingdom to create a heroic fictitious character from their favorite book using supplies found at home. Two brothers from Kettering, England, have made it to the finals for their re-creation of a scene from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Max, who is eight, along with his younger brother Leo, age six, decorated his fireplace to look like Privet Drive when Harry received hundreds of letters informing him of his acceptance to Hogwarts. Their mother, Rachael, helped them enter this contest and submitted a photo of their work.
The detail on this is quite impressive for two children under the age of ten. We wonder if these brothers had some help from Felix Felicis. From multiple letters flying out of the fireplace to one of the most remembered quotes by Professor Dumbledore, this is very much a job well done. A spokesman for Bargain Max admits that they were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of entries for the national competition.
Thank you to everyone who entered; we really enjoyed seeing your book[-]inspired creations. We hope this has got children excited for World Book Day and that it brought families a bit of fun through this lockdown.
The overall winners of the competition will be announced this Friday, February 26. Max and Leo are hoping to claim the £100 prize for first place. They have some competition from other characters, such as the Tin Man, the BFG, and Elmer the elephant. To see the top ten finalists, check out the Bargain Max website.
We’re cheering you on, Max and Leo! Which submission is your favorite for World Book Day?
