David Thewlis Will Play a Man on the Run in “Landscapers” Alongside Olivia Colman
For all the Remus Lupins fans out there, David Thewlis has signed on to star alongside Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) in a four-episode limited series from HBO and Sky Studios called Landscapers.
Thewlis has remained busy since his time on the Harry Potter films, and this new series has already piqued some interest. He and Colman will play a typically ordinary couple who becomes the primary focus of an intense murder investigation when two bodies are discovered in the back garden of their home in Nottingham, England.
The seemingly mild-mannered couple, Christopher and Susan, has been on the run from reality for over 15 years. As the investigation into their alleged crimes heats up, the couple takes refuge in a fantasy world, providing temporary relief from their increasing guilt. The disconnect from reality begins to gradually take its toll and threatens to be the couple’s undoing.
Thewlis believes this series is one of the best projects he’s had the privilege of working on in years.
This is without doubt the very finest project I have worked on for many years. Everything about Landscapers is magical, there is nothing like it and I’m impatient to get to work so that its brilliance can be shared with the rest of the world.
Production for the series is underway now. It will also feature Kate O’Flynn (Happy-Go-Lucky, Bridget Jones’s Baby), Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, The Lady in the Van), Karl Johnson (Hot Fuzz, The Death of Stalin), Felicity Montagu (Bridget Jones’s Diary, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People), Daniel Rigby (Black Mirror, Flowers), and Dipo Ola (Baghdad Central, We Hunt Together). Will Sharpe (Flowers, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain) will be directing all four episodes, and he feels this is a series to not be missed.
It’s a huge privilege to be collaborating with Ed, Sister, Sky, HBO and our extraordinary cast and crew on this exciting project. We cannot wait to unearth for you the bizarre shape-shifting truths that lie buried in the unsettling yet deeply romantic world of Landscapers.
This character that Thewlis will be playing seems vastly different from the Professor Lupin we got to know, but who doesn’t love a good mystery? With such an integrated cast, let’s hope this series will keep us guessing from the beginning.
