Leicestershire Town Has the Next One-Stop “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars” Shop
Does anyone miss shopping at an actual store? Ever since the pandemic hit, online stores have been most people’s go-to way of doing their shopping, so much so that the hustle and bustle of brick-and-mortar stores have become a nostalgic sound of the past. But it doesn’t have to be, and GeekMerch (also an online store) is creating a space for people to do actual, in-person shopping for all their favorite movie memorabilia, which includes the Harry Potter and Star Wars merchandise of your dreams. Now that sounds like fun.
GeekMerch, run by business pals Neal Whitmore and Pete Salisbury in Hinckley, Leicestershire, in the United Kingdom, has been an online store for two years, but after lockdown hit, Whitmore and Salisbury recognized the need people had for a physical store where they can be surrounded by movie memorabilia and other fans. They decided to open a physical store once shopping was allowed again, and Salisbury says that on the two Saturdays the store has been open, “the response has been amazing.”
The store sells everything a fan dreams of, like T-shirts, toys, mugs, and rucksacks from the Harry Potter universe as well as other popular cinematic worlds like Star Wars, Minecraft, DC, Marvel, and anime. If you’re already standing with your Galleons in one hand and your phone opened on Google Maps in the other, you can find the store in the Warehouse on Druid Street opposite Terry West Carpets. For those who do not find themselves living in Hinckley or surrounding areas, you can head to the online store.
Whitmore and Salisbury are very excited about the new store and grateful that they can be the place fans go to be immersed in their favorite fantasy world and meet fellow fans while they’re at it.
If you’re ready to spend some Galleons, the GeekMerch store is open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and if you’re interested in getting the latest updates on the shop, you can follow the GeekMerch page on Facebook.
