Fan Focus: Rena – July 7, 2021
Welcome back to Fan Focus, formerly Fan of the Week, where MuggleNet will introduce and highlight a Wizarding World fan by sharing their answers to various questions every two weeks. Rena is from Nashville, Tennessee, and a Gryffindor. As a Harry Potter fan, she had a magical time at a midnight release, and her last name tends to get mispronounced as McGonagall.
How did you become a Wizarding World fan?
[I] Started reading the series when I was 9! […] My mom actually made me because it was worth more AR points in school than Nancy Drew. She may regret that now because that was the start of her driving me to every midnight book release and movie premiere, me begging her to redecorate my bedroom like the Gryffindor Common Room, and me constantly running through the yard brandishing a stick like a wand. She even had to talk me out of a full-blown Harry Potter theme wedding, though we compromised with a themed wedding shower instead.
What is your favorite quote from the books or movies?
“What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does.” – Hagrid
If you could spend a day with a character from Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, who would it be and why?
I think Tonks and I would be great friends. We’re both a little alternative and really clumsy.
Who is your favorite Wizarding World character and why?
Hermione had a huge impact on my childhood. As a quiet, bookish kid, I identified with her character, and she taught me that it was okay to be strong and smart.
What is your favorite Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts memory?
I’ll forever cherish running through a Barnes & Noble at 11 p.m. with my best friend, waiting for [Harry Potter and the] Order of the Phoenix to be released at midnight, and winning the costume contest at the release of [Harry Potter and the] Deathly Hallows dressed as Hermione. I wouldn’t trade staying up all night reading with my cat Nimbus, or spending lunch with my friends while theorizing how the Sorting Hat would have handled our classmates, for anything.
If you could have one prop from the set of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, what would it be?
A Time-Turner… or a wand.
