Experience a World of Magic at Mandrakes Coffee Shop

by Alexis Baker · August 5, 2021

If you’re looking for a unique atmosphere blended with delicious coffee, look no further than Ormskirk, England. Located at 4 St Helens Road is Mandrakes A Magical Experience, a beautiful coffee shop filled with decorations sure to remind you of Harry Potter.

Among the many Harry Potter coffee shops to look out for when traveling, Mandrakes has recently opened back up after being closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

As soon as you step inside, you will be transported to a unique and magical place, as if you’ve just Apparated into the wizarding world.

Mandrakes has a little bit of magic for everyone, from serving coffee and tea to breakfast and desserts. After enjoying a cup of coffee or a treat, be sure to stick around to explore the magically decorated rooms, take pictures, and participate in the quizzes available.

When talking about the decorations inside the coffee shop, owner Gail Usher added that she has not yet found another location that has the same magical experience in the United Kingdom, and so both she and co-owner Aileen Piper wanted to create something new.

Our aim is to bring a bit of magic, happiness and something a little bit different to someone’s live [sic].

While the team members dress in robes like witches and wizards, with fun names and backstories, they will complete wand quizzes and even Sort you into a “mandrake house” while situated at your table. If time is on your side, you may even get to join in on group quizzes for a chance to win vouchers for the shop’s official Harry Potter merchandise.

The decorated rooms of the coffee shop include a Mandrakes Express room, the Herbology room, and the Potions room, but fear not, for this room is not located in a dungeon like at Hogwarts. The decorations for the shop were picked out by Usher and Piper, taking inspiration from the Wizarding World to create a unique and fun experience for all.

Inside the Mandrakes Express room, the main stone wall is decorated with a train with striking similarities to the Hogwarts Express, giving it a home-like feel for Harry Potter fans. The room is also equipped with broom props to take photos with. Next up on our Hogwarts class schedule is the Herbology room, which includes an assortment of mandrake plants and earmuffs to take photos with. Inside the Potions room are robes and wands to take photos with, and the Mandrakes team is available to set up “battle scenes” using the wands as well.

Be sure to make a stop at this magical spot, which is open Thursday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
