“SpeakBeasty” Episode 134: “We Owe It to the Food”
In this episode of SpeakBeasty, we discuss food in sci-fi and fantasy literature with special guest Thea James. Thea is the cofounder of the Hugo Award–winning book review blog the Book Smugglers and author of Cooking for Wizards, Warriors and Dragons, a new cookbook full of fantasy-inspired recipes.
Join hosts Amy, Ann, and Marjolaine as they interview Thea about her new book and the inspiration behind the recipes included in its pages. Cooking for Wizards, Warriors and Dragons will be released on September 21 and includes over 100 recipes from books, including Game of Thrones, the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Lord of the Rings, and more.
In this episode, hear from Thea about how she curated the recipes for the book and why she decided to undergo the task in the first place. Meanwhile, our hosts reach for their inner Hufflepuffs (Amy doesn’t have to look too deep) as they offer their theories on why food makes us feel more connected to fictional realms.
This week’s podcast question is “What food would you like to try from a fantasy series?” Send us your thoughts and theories at SpeakBeasty@gmail.com, or reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
