Events Roundup: “Harry Potter” Movie Marathon and Annual Wizard Weekend

For our first Events Roundup of the year, we’ve got several Harry Potter–themed events coming your way, including the continuing 20-year-anniversary celebrations of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone being released in theaters with special movie events and more.

Nerds of Marquette Holding Harry Potter–Themed Event

On January 15, Nerds of Marquette is holding a Hogwarts-themed event at Marqwarts School & Marqsmeade Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Campfire CoWorks in Marquette, Michigan.

There, you’ll find a magical market that will have several vendors selling Harry Potter–themed items and treats; plus, classes will take place, including Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, and more. Ashley Ross, cofounder of Campfire CoWorks, discussed the reasoning behind the event.

Marquette’s not just about the outdoors. It’s also about the people who live here, and we want to make sure that everyone who lives here feels included so they want to stay.

You can also join in with the Marqball event (a dance event for Harry Potter fans) at Barrel and Beam Brewery in the evening, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. There will also be a silent auction of Harry Potter memorabilia that has been made by local artists.

Proceeds from the event will go toward Social Justice for Us, and tickets are available to purchase both online and at the door.

Harry Potter Movie Marathon with Afternoon Tea and Cocktails

To celebrate 20 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was released in theaters, a magical movie marathon is taking place in Manchester, England, where you’ll be able to get your hands on afternoon tea and wizard-themed cocktails too.

The events will take place at King Street Townhouse, a vintage-style cinema, where all eight Harry Potter films will be shown across two weekends.

With a limited number of seats available, tickets cost £65 ($89) per person, and this price covers the afternoon tea, popcorn and sweets, and the ticket for one film screening (you can choose which movie you’d like to watch).

On January 21, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be shown at 1:00 p.m., followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at 4:00 p.m. On January 22, you can watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at 1:00 p.m. and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at 4:00 p.m. Then, the next day at 1:00 p.m., Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is being shown, followed by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at 4:00 p.m.

If you can’t make it that weekend, why not head over the following weekend?

You can catch Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire on January 28 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively. Then on January 29, watch Order of the Phoenix at 1:00 p.m. or Half-Blood Prince at 4:00 p.m. Finally, if you fancy watching the end of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2 are being shown on January 30 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Tickets can be bought online

Annual Wizard Weekend

On January 29 and 30, Visit Fayetteville is hosting its annual Wizard Weekend.

The event, which will feature a Sorting Hat ceremony, Potions classes, and quidditch tournaments, will be outside due to COVID-19. Tabitha Stover discussed the exciting quidditch event that will take place.

The quidditch… We’ll have a big tournament on Sunday. Bring out a broom if you’re willing. We try to do one-wheel quidditch, and we’re hoping to do that, but usually it’s a little wet, so our backup plan is to just do it on foot, so we’re preparing for that. Anyone can get involved with it. We have the hoops and everything. We’ve had a golden snitch make appearances, so you want to be looking out for that. That’s a lot of fun.

Everyone will be joining in with the wizarding fun; some of the local businesses in downtown Fayetteville, West Virginia, will be transforming their shops into broom stores, wand shops, and more for the entire weekend. It sounds like a lot of fun to us.
