It Just Got Weird – Daniel Radcliffe to Play “Weird Al” Yankovic in Biopic
Buckle up, Potter fans. Here’s the casting news you didn’t know you needed: Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Daniel Radcliffe, our very own Harry Potter in the beloved film series, has been cast as “Weird Al” Yankovic in the upcoming biopic WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story.
This biopic will hold nothing back according to the film’s official release. It will explore “every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame […] to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.” Yankovic is thrilled about the film and casting.
When my last movie, UHF, came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule. And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.
The biopic, which will stream exclusively on the Roku Channel, was written by Yankovic and Eric Appel (Son of Zorn, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) and produced by Funny or Die and Tango.
We’re definitely excited to see Daniel take on the role of this pop parody icon. We’re also curious if Daniel will lend his vocal talents and dance moves for some of Weird Al’s famous songs for this film. What do you think about this once-in-a-lifetime role?
