James Snyder Fired from the Broadway Production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
James Snyder, known to Wizarding World fans for his role as Harry in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, has been fired from the show after an independent investigation following a misconduct complaint.
According to Variety, Snyder had been suspended from the show after a misconduct complaint was filed by Diane Davis, who plays Ginny Potter, on November 19, 2021. An independent inquiry was launched, and following the result of the investigation, Snyder’s contract with Cursed Child has been terminated.
While the details of the misconduct complaint are not known, the producers of the newly reopened one-part play released a statement reaffirming their commitment to a “safe and inclusive workplace.”
We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, which is why we have robust workplace policies and procedures in place for all those involved in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ This includes strict prohibitions against harassment in any form, as well as channels through which any employee can report conduct that they believe is inappropriate. We will continue to do all we can to ensure the extremely talented team that brings this production to life feels safe, empowered, and fully supported.
Within the statement, it was revealed that Davis would be taking a voluntary leave of absence from the show and that there will be no further comment on the matter to respect her privacy and “maintain the integrity of the investigation.” The production’s full statement can be read on BroadwayWorld.
