Tom Felton Discusses “Harry Potter,” New Projects in Recent Interviews
In the weeks following the release of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, multiple members of the Harry Potter cast have spoken out about what the series means to them. One of the latest is Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and who stars in the new film Save the Cinema alongside Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actress Samantha Morton.
Tom appeared on BBC One’s The One Show earlier this month, where he discussed both Harry Potter and Save the Cinema. In the clips below, you can see Tom receive a surprise from Richard Goodridge – the man he portrays in Save the Cinema – and answer fan questions about the Harry Potter series.

The website OC Movie Reviews also interviewed Tom about his role in Save the Cinema. In the interview, he says he took the role because of its plot’s connection to Jurassic Park.
It’s a really, really cool story. Jurassic Park was a big part of my childhood, and it sparked my love for cinema. Without question, the first memory I have of going to the cinema is Jurassic Park. I’m sure I’d been to see other films before, but that was the first one that had me hiding underneath my seat with my dad just laughing at me while two velociraptors try to kill two kids in the kitchen. So it’s very close to my heart.
Goodridge actually wrote him a letter that was left on his trailer door.
On the last day, I found a letter left on my trailer door, and it’s now on my fridge at home. It was addressed to ‘Tom Felton Esquire,’ which was lovely. It’s written in this gorgeous calligraphy, and inside was just a very lovely letter from Richard saying, ‘Thank you for telling my story, and please do me justice’ and just saying that he was really happy that his story was being told.
Finally, Tom was the December cover star of London-based lifestyle magazine Square Mile, in which he discussed both Potter and Save the Cinema, among other projects – as well as his TikTok popularity.

The interview is filled with plenty of anecdotes, from Tom’s finding out that he was cast as Draco while playing soccer with a friend to how he feels that his experience with the Harry Potter series has differed from that of his costars. (Did you know that he auditioned for both Harry and Ron?)
But I tried for Harry. Four times, I think. Dyed my hair, did the scar. There’s a video somewhere of me auditioning at least twice for Potter. Then they dyed my hair ginger once to do Ron – didn’t get that one either. Finally, they dyed it blonde for Draco.
He would also return as Draco for a film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he says.
Older Draco, obviously. Yeah, [Harry Potter and] the Cursed Child would be perfect. Not right now. I’d need another five years or so. I don’t know how many of them would go back and do it. I’m the no-brainer – although don’t print that because I want to make sure they give me a decent fee!
