Chinese Audiobooks of “Harry Potter” Set to Launch on June 21
Audiobooks have revolutionized the way in which many readers consume their books. With the hustle and bustle of our chaotic Muggle lives, many have shifted to audiobooks as a means to explore new worlds while simultaneously performing everyday tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and commuting. This allows for a little magic during otherwise lost time.
Now Chinese-speaking Potterheads will be able to revisit the wizarding world with brand-new versions of the Harry Potter books. A collaboration between Pottermore Publishing and Ximalaya has resulted in the first-ever Chinese-language audiobooks of the Potter series. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be released Tuesday, June 21, with the other books soon to follow. To create the best audio experience for its listeners, Ximalaya teamed up with VoiceGem to have Jiang Guangtao and other leading voice actors lend their voices to the Boy Who Lived and his many adventures.
2022 has been a big year for Harry Potter and audiobook production. Pottermore Publishing announced several months ago that it is collaborating with its retail partner Storytel to produce audiobooks of the Potter series in ten foreign languages, namely Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Korean, Polish, Russian, Swedish, and Turkish. These translations, however, will not appear until 2023 at the very earliest.
