Events Roundup: Wizarding Night at Milwaukee County Zoo and Summer at Hogwarts

Whatever your age and magical ability, this Events Roundup has something for everyone. Keep your kids entertained this summer with Harry Potterthemed English classes and Wizarding Night at Milwaukee County Zoo, or you could head to an online workshop to discover the connection between the Harry Potter series and psychology.

Wizarding Night at Milwaukee County Zoo

Head to Milwaukee County Zoo, Wisconsin, on July 27, where you can experience Wizarding Night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

During the Sunset Zoofari, you’ll watch a performance by Dirty Boogie at the Flamingo Gazebo as well as hear music from other popular Milwaukee bands while surrounded by your favorite animals.

Grab your wand and your best costumes and participate in the costume contest, play Harry Potter trivia, and enjoy some food and drink. Children two and under go free. Those between three and twelve cost $8, and it’s $10.50 for adults.

You can purchase VIP tickets online only, and these include a screening of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a commemorative zoo wizarding mug, a sweet treat, access to the Sunset Zoofari activities, and more.

Harry Potter’s Birthday Celebration

Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday by heading to Downtown Plant City, Florida, on July 29.

There, you’ll find a wizarding scavenger hunt at Robert W. Willaford Railroad Museum, a kids’ zone that includes a giant waterslide, and a Harry Potter–themed costume contest. Admission to the evening is free.

Harry Potter Day

Don your wizarding robes for Harry Potter Day, a magical day of fun and enchantment at Smyrna Outdoor Aventure Center, Tennesee, on July 30 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The cost of the event is free with paid admission of $5–$6, and you can register online

Fan Expo Boston

Fan Expo Boston is set to take place between August 12 and 14, containing “three days of fun-filled fan culture.” The events will be held across the city, with a host of family-friendly activities and celebrity guests.

The highlight for Harry Potter fans will be the appearance of Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter franchise. Tickets can be purchased online.

Stories as Medicine: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Take part in an online workshop on August 20 exploring the story of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and the psychology connected to it.

Stories as Medicine workshops are group discussion spaces exploring stories to expand our understanding of individual and collective psychology. In this event we explore some of the archetypal imagery and symbols in the tale. We also take a look at the role of ‘Harry Potter’ in therapy, and some of the ways in which we might consider using this story as a therapeutic tool.

This two-hour workshop is suitable for anyone interested in stories, psychology, and Harry Potter, and tickets can be bought online for £25 ($30).

Holly’s Summer at Hogwarts

Your kids might not have received their Hogwarts letters yet, but they can join English teacher Holly this summer for some online Harry Potter–themed English classes.

Different classes are available for “Owls” (ages six to ten) and “Newts” (ages nine to thirteen).

Learners will enjoy energetic lessons with the opportunity to discuss their ideas with other participants from all over the UK and the world. All they’ll need is pen, paper, and a willingness to learn. Worksheets and Zoom login details are emailed out the evening before each class.

Class recordings will be available for 14 days, so you’ll be able to enjoy the class at a time that suits you. The video replay is sent out within 24 hours of each class.

The Owls class will be held on August 3, 10, and 17, and the Newts class will be held on August 4, 11, and 18. Each will run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. BST. Tickets can be purchased online and cost £32.93 ($39.59).

If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.
