“Cursed Child” Receives Eight Nominations for the 42nd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards
On Monday, the Toronto Alliance for Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 235 nominations for the 42nd annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards. These awards determine excellence in professional theatre, dance, and opera in Toronto, Canada. Nominated among some of the most exciting performances onstage is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The Dora Mavor Moore Awards will take place on September 19 at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre in the Elgin Theatre. Cursed Child is nominated in eight categories, including Outstanding Production; Outstanding Direction to John Tiffany; Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role to both Gregory Prest (Ron Weasley) and Sarah Afful (Hermione Granger); Outstanding Scenic/Projection Design to Christine Jones, Finn Ross, and Ash J. Woodward; Outstanding Costume Design to Katrina Lindsay; Outstanding Lighting Design to Neil Austin; and Outstanding Sound Design/Composition to Gareth Fry and Imogen Heap.
Tiffany, Prest, Afful, Jones, Ross, Woodward, Lindsay, Austin, Fry, and Heap are all eligible to receive a $1,000 cash prize from the Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts if they win in their respective categories.
Other nominated Mirvish-backed productions include & Juliet, also with eight nominations; Boy Falls from the Sky, with six nominations; and ROOM, with two nominations.
