Diary of a First Year – Part 11
September 25, afternoon
Dear Diary,
It’s lunch after Charms, and I think I can confidently say that I have found my favorite class. Charms are just so useful. They can be used in all sorts of situations and range from the simplest levitation and light spells to the most complex, like the one Professor Flitwick told us about today, the Fidelius Charm.
I’m also quite good at Charms, if I do say so myself. I love perfecting every wand movement and incantation. All the details make the difference in whether you make a feather float or cause an ocean wave to crash down on you suddenly. I’ve been doing some outside reading in the Ravenclaw library, and so many of the most fascinating witches and wizards have invented charms and spells. I stayed back after class today to ask Professor Flitwick about Delfina Crimp, the inventor of the Severing Charm. We had a wonderful conversation about how the severity of spells can escalate. He even complimented me on my spellwork! I’ve been feeling lately like I’ll never be able to truly master magic the way I want to, but that made me feel so much better.
