Diary of a First Year – Part 6
September 10, evening
Dear Diary,
Today, we had our first flying lessons, and I don’t think I’ll be playing Quidditch anytime soon. Just getting the broom to respond to me was so hard. You’re supposed to start with your hand over the broomstick and say “Up.” Eloise’s broom jumped to her hand quickly, and Cameron’s wasn’t far behind. Eloise seemed really surprised; she said she hasn’t flown very often and only with her dad for short distances. Cameron is a Quidditch fanatic, so he’s been dying to fly and was really pleased with himself. But I just couldn’t do it for the longest time. Eloise said I sounded a little scared, and maybe I am after watching Quidditch tryouts. Then, we had to mount the broom and hover for a few seconds. There’s a lot of nuance in the movements here too, but I just couldn’t really figure them out. I don’t think I’ll be joining the Quidditch team anytime soon, but Eloise and Cameron have promised to help me at least feel a little more confident while flying. I’m glad to have found some good friends in them.
