“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Hamburg Announces Transition to One-Part Production
The Hamburg production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has announced on Instagram that the show will be transitioning from two parts to a condensed, one-part format. The final two-part performance of Cursed Child will take place on January 8, 2023, and the one-part performances will begin on February 9. Tickets for the condensed version at the Mehr! The Hamburg production’s decision to adopt a one-part format follows in the footsteps of several other Cursed Child productions. The New York and San Francisco productions both made the transition to the condensed version when performances resumed after the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Melbourne production transitioned to the condensed version in May. The Tokyo and Toronto productions both debuted with the one-part format. The London production is now the only one to maintain the two-part structure.
The decision to condense Cursed Child‘s original two parts into one was met with controversy when the North American productions first adopted the format. However, the single-part show has proven successful since its introduction. The Broadway production of Cursed Child has reportedly performed better since reopening as a one-part show compared to the pre-pandemic two-part performances.
