“She Loves Going to Different Targets”: Rupert Grint on His Daughter’s Target Obsession and His Infamous Ice Cream Van
Rupert Grint’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon saw him talking about his daughter Wednesday’s latest obsession and the ice cream van he bought while working on the Harry Potter films.
When discussing Grint’s almost 3-year-old daughter, Wednesday, Fallon asked, “Are you proud of the name Wednesday?” joking that next year, every child will be named Wednesday because of the huge success of the Addams Family spin-off TV series of the same name.
Rupert revealed that Wednesday is obsessed with Target, and after spending a lot of time in the United States because of Grint filming Servant, she is now having to adjust to life in the United Kingdom without her favorite store.
The big one is Target. She is obsessed with Target. She’d choose that over going to the park, zoo. She loves going to different Targets and seeing how the layout’s slightly different, and sometimes she doesn’t buy anything; she just wants to browse.
It was one of the most difficult conversations, telling her she lives in a country that doesn’t have Target. I’ve shown her our equivalent, but it just doesn’t hold up.
To ease Wednesday’s pain of no longer being able to go on regular trips to Target, Grint has built her a miniature Target play store, finished off with gift cards and a card reader.
Fallon also brought up Rupert’s infamous ice cream van that was purchased as his first-ever car. Describing it as “the most impractical first car because it has one seat and the rest of it is all freezer,” Grint revealed it ended up being his “everyday car for a while.” Rupert admitted that he did use it once for its intended purpose.
The only time I ever did was I took it on the last day of filming [of Harry Potter and the] Deathly Hallows – Part 2. They had a mariachi band, and I brought my van to serve ice cream to the crew.
Rupert is currently starring in the fourth and final season of Servant, which has been the longest thing he has been a part of since his ten years in the Harry Potter films. Fans of the show will be pleased to hear that “there'[re] a lot of questions this season does its best to answer.”
The first episode of Season 4 of Servant was released on Apple TV+ on January 13, and it streams every Friday until the season finale on March 17.
