29 High Schools Announced as the First in Their States to Perform “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
The high school edition of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced in September, bringing the magic of Hogwarts to normal high schools and transforming Muggle students into young witches and wizards.
After the announcement came the reveal of the first school in the whole of the United States or the United Kingdom to perform the show. Broadway Licensing Global (BLG) announced back in December that Hoboken High School in Hoboken, New Jersey, and Riverside School in Barking, London, would be the first in their respective countries to perform the new show. Riverside will be the first to pilot their version at the end of March this year, with Hoboken High following a couple of months later in the middle of May.
The Wands at the Ready competition would also set apart the most magical schools in each state or territory in the US and give them the opportunity to become the first schools to perform the new edition in their area. We can now finally announce all of the competition’s winners!

This month’s newly announced winners will show their final productions between October 15 and November 10, with several developmental pilot shows in the months prior.
The pilots will ensure that each school can perform the magic of the show with their budget and the equipment they have available. The high school version will be shorter than any of the professionally produced versions of the show and has new special effects fit for any school, regardless of its lighting, sound, or stage set-up.
