“Harry Potter” Stunt Double David Holmes Is Publishing a Memoir

Fans of the Harry Potter film series, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, triumph overcoming tragedy, and powerful stories in general have reason to celebrate this fall. David Holmes, famed Potter stunt double, is publishing his memoir.

Written with Matt Allen, and including a special foreword by Daniel Radcliffe, The Boy Who Lived will dive deep into Holmes’s experiences on set, as well as the accident and resulting injury during the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that paralyzed him from the chest down. The memoir is being published by Hodder & Stoughton with a release date of November 14, 2024. Susannah Otter, the nonfiction publishing director, shared her appreciation of the piece:

This is a one-of-a-kind book, like its author. Both moving and deeply funny, it is an honour to be publishing a book with such bravery, heart and humor.

The work shares a name with Radcliffe and Holmes’s recently released HBO documentary, which was nominated for a BAFTA in the single documentary category this year. The film takes a close look at Holmes’s life, achievements, and resilience. The memoir promises even more.

“There are plenty of stories from my life that have not been touched on in the documentary,” Holmes said on social media recently, noting that his new book would be covering quite a few details from his work on the Potter series. “My first day’s work, I became the first Quidditch player in the world,” he recounted. “Not just Harry did I perform stunts for, but I was Harry, Ron, Hermione, [and] Malfoy.” Check out his Instagram post below for more commentary.
