“Hogwarts Legacy” Sequel to Coordinate Storylines with Upcoming TV Adaptation

According to David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, in a new interview with Variety, the upcoming sequel to the hit video game Hogwarts Legacy will include plot elements that coincide with the upcoming Harry Potter HBO TV series. The TV adaptation is projected to air in late 2026 or early 2027 and will retell the stories from the Harry Potter books.

Hogwarts Legacy was the bestselling game of 2023 in the US and worldwide, which is impressive given the bestselling game in the US each year for well over a decade had been either Call of Duty or a Rockstar Games title. The sequel is in early development at Warner Bros. Games and is already exciting to fans who loved the original game and are looking forward to seeing more. 

Set about 100 years before the events of the Potter books, Hogwarts Legacy follows an original wizarding world storyline where players can tell their own story rather than following characters they are familiar with from the books.

The game is a fresh take on the wizarding world, as previous Harry Potter video games were just simple retellings of the books and movies. There was very little originality within the gaming world of Harry Potter before Hogwarts Legacy came along. 

Speculation states that even though the sequel will include storylines from the HBO show, gamers might not necessarily take control of any of the protagonists within the modern wizarding world but may instead come across and interact with them, as the first game made it a point to play as and create the user’s own original character.

David Haddad additionally had this to say about the new piece of information involving the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy:

We have known for some time that our fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that. Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep Harry Potter fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them.

This new update about the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is sure to further excite fans who are looking forward to the video game, who will no doubt be eager to see what tie-ins the creators are able to incorporate from the upcoming HBO series.
