One of the best activities of the cold season is cooking. There’s no better feeling than when the house gets filled with the sweet aroma of food or freshly baked pastries, instantly making it warmer and cozier. If you need some inspiration from the Potter series, try one of these three very easy and delicious recipes.

Hermione’s Sleeping Draught Cupcakes

Hermione’s Sleeping Draught Cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 110g softened butter
  • 110g sugar
  • 110g flour
  • half tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • half tablespoon of baking soda

For the Icing:

  • 150g softened butter
  • 300g icing sugar
  • 3-5 tablespoons milk
  • half tablespoon of vanilla extract

Remember when Hermione made these good-looking cupcakes that had sleeping draught in them? They looked so tasteful, no wonder why Crabbe and Goyle started greedily eating it, even though they just finished their dinner. In reality, this recipe is very simple.

Preheat the oven to 180 C. Add all the ingredients except for flour into a large bowl, and stir them with a mixer or a whisk. Once all the ingredients are smooth, start adding the flour and keep mixing it. Fill the cupcake case with the mixture and bake it for around 15 – 20 minutes. You can use a toothpick to check whether the cupcakes are ready – insert the toothpick into the center of the cupcakes, and if it comes out dry and clean, that means they are ready to go.

For the icing, start whisking the butter and constantly add the mixing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Decorate only the center part of the cupcakes, just like Hermione did. You can also add some grated dark chocolate or brown sprinkles on the icing so they’ll look just like the ones in the movie!

Pumpkin Pasties

Pumpkin Pasties

Ingredients:

  • 2 pie store-bought pie crusts
  • 2 large eggs
  • 120g sugar
  • 110g cream cheese
  • 225g pumpkin puree
  • 60g softened butter
  • half tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • spices of your choice

We know what you’re thinking: It’s no longer autumn, you’re already in a festive mood, and pumpkin pastries don’t really go well with the Christmas-y atmosphere. But hear us out. It’s the perfect way to cherish the passing season as well as get rid of all those leftover pumpkins. So let’s start with the recipe.

The first thing you need to do is make the pumpkin puree. Cut a pumpkin in half, clean it to remove the seeds, and roast it in a 180C oven for around 30 minutes. Then, peel off the skin of the pumpkin, cut the “meat” into small pieces, and mash it up in a blender or a food processor. (To make this recipe even more effortless, you can also use a canned puree – that will work just fine.)

Preheat your oven to 200C. Then, start mixing the cream cheese with the puree, and slowly start adding all the other ingredients. As for the spices, you can choose cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, or anything else that you like.

Roll out the pie crust and make round shapes on it. Fill them with your ready mixture and fold them in half, so you’ll receive half-moon-shaped pasties. Make sure to seal the edges well, so all the filling won’t come out while baking. Cut vents on the top of the pasties to allow the steam to escape; you could even make lightning shaped vents, so they’ll turn out more magical and thematic. Put the pasties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Voila! You have some delicious snacks you can enjoy while watching or reading Harry Potter for the hundredth time.

Butterbeer (Non-Alcoholic)

Butterbeer

Ingredients:

  • 250g whipping cream
  • 250g butterscotch candy
  • 250mL Sprite (or any other sparkling water)
  • spoonful of ice cream
  • caramel syrup

This foaming, warming drink will warm your body and soul even on the coldest winter day. Start by melting the butterscotch candy with the whipping cream on the stove. Don’t forget to constantly stir it so you’ll get a smooth consistency. Once it’s ready, pour it into a glass (which you can decorate with some caramel syrup beforehand so it looks prettier), add the ice cream and Sprite, and mix it with a spoon. You can add some more whipping cream or ice cream on top and decorate with caramel syrup, grated chocolate, cinnamon, or cocoa powder. If you’re having a party that requires alcoholic beverages, you can add a little bit of rum or butterscotch schnapps.
