Sorting “Wicked” Characters into Hogwarts Houses
The first part of the Wicked movie adaptation was released late last year, and the second part will come out later this year. While the characters may have gone to Shiz University instead of Hogwarts, they demonstrate characteristics of Hogwarts’ Houses. Today, we’re Sorting some of the characters from the musical into their respective Hogwarts Houses.
Elphaba Thropp – Gryffindor
With her green skin and Wizard of Oz moniker as the “Wicked Witch of the West,” it would be easy to assume she’s a Slytherin. However, her bravery and courage put her in Gryffindor. She consistently challenges authority and refuses to accept injustice, even when it isolates her. Her bravery shines in her willingness to stand up for the Animals’ rights and defy Madame Morrible and the Wizard, which results in her leaving everyone she loves behind.
Glinda (Galinda) Upland – Slytherin
Glinda’s ambitious and image-conscious nature places her firmly in Slytherin. At Shiz University, she actively seeks popularity and influence, often making calculated moves to get what she wants, such as manipulating Boq to take Nessarose to the dance so she can go with Fiyero. While her friendship with Elphaba shows she’s capable of growth, Glinda’s ambition and cunning demonstrate her Slytherin nature.
Fiyero Tigelaar – Gryffindor
Fiyero, though carefree and seemingly indifferent at first, reveals his Gryffindor nature when he helps Elphaba free the lion cub. Gryffindors often display a bold and impulsive nature, which aligns with Fiyero’s initial hedonistic attitude. His bravery and loyalty in the face of danger make him a true Gryffindor.
Boq Woodsman – Hufflepuff
Boq’s defining trait is his unwavering loyalty and dedication. While his crush on Glinda drives much of his early actions, his determination to support Nessarose speaks to his Hufflepuff values. Hufflepuffs are known for their patience and kindness, and Boq’s consistent attempts to do the right thing make him a natural fit for this House.
Nessarose Thropp – Slytherin
Nessarose’s ambition and manipulation point to her Slytherin tendencies. Though she initially appears meek, her determination to stand out at Shiz and her resourceful nature are the first hints at her true Slytherin character, which will be further explored in the second part.
Madame Morrible – Slytherin
Madame Morrible is the epitome of a Slytherin: power-hungry, manipulative, and ambitious. Her alliance with the Wizard and her use of deceitful tactics to control others highlight her cunning nature. She values authority above all else and will stop at nothing to maintain her influence, making her a Slytherin.
Dr. Dillamond – Ravenclaw
Dr. Dillamond’s thirst for knowledge and commitment to education put him in Ravenclaw. As a professor, he values intellect and reason, striving to uncover the truth about the treatment of Animals. His intellectual curiosity and desire to share wisdom, even at great personal risk, reflect the Ravenclaw traits of wit, learning, and wisdom.
