This Redheaded “Harry Potter” Alum in Talks to Reprise Role in HBO Max Series

The Harry Potter fandom is no stranger to fan casting. We have been populating the films (real and much-desired) with our favorite actors for more years than we can count. Even here at MuggleNet, we have article after article about fan casting, most popularly for the (sadly) not-real Marauder series. Wishes of someday seeing Ben Barnes as Sirius Black and Andrew Garfield as Remus Lupin have been a part of this fandom just about as long as the actors actually cast in those roles.

So, naturally, the fandom has created a long list of their ideal cast members for the upcoming HBO Max television series. Adam Driver as Snape. Jared Harris (Richard Harris’s son) for Dumbledore. Timothée Chalamet for Regulus Black. Ben Barnes and Andrew Garfield, still and again.

Additionally, the campaign for actors to reprise their roles (or similar) in the HBO Max television series has been consistent and quite strong. The trio – Emma, Dan, and Rupert – have been quite clear that they do not intend to take part in the remake. Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who portrayed Tom Riddle in Half-Blood Prince (and happens to be Ralph Fiennes’s nephew) has expressed interest in playing an adult Lord Voldemort. Many really, really want Tom Felton to play Lucius Malfoy, and Tom is not only aware of this but seemingly up for it! In a 2023 interview with Pedestrian, Tom joked, “I just don’t think they can afford me. Let’s make it clear I am joking. But also: I’m available.”

We have no word on whether or not Tom is in talks, but MuggleNet can exclusively confirm that a redheaded Harry Potter alum is in deep, serious talks about reprising their role in the new television series – and it could not be more perfect.

Ellie Darcey-Alden is best known for her role as young Lily Evans, Harry’s mother, in Snape’s Pensieve memories in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Ellie was barely a preteen when she portrayed the younger version of the woman whose love saved her son, but now, at 25 years old, she is in the perfect position to play Lily Potter – the grown-up, married version of the character she previously portrayed. The internet seems to agree, as just about every casting post on social mentions that Ellie would be the perfect Lily Potter.

The timing for this does seem perfect, and with her experience in the franchise (and as a massive fan of the books!), she seems to be an impeccable fit. What do you think? Should Warner Bros. bring back an alum and cast Ellie? If you’d like to send in your thoughts, you can reach out to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com. Be sure to mention April F. in the subject line.

I am a 40-something Ravenclaw/Slytherin from Massachusetts. I've been lucky in life and can attribute a lot of that to Harry Potter. Without it, I wouldn't have at least 80% of the things I do today, including my career & closest friends. I truly despise Sirius Black.
