HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation has found three more familiar faces from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, including the newest member of the Weasley family.

Rafe Spall has been selected to portray Arthur Weasley, with Molly Hewitt-Richards taking on Moaning Myrtle and Jasper Ambrose appearing as Colin Creevey. All three characters enter Harry’s story during his second year at Hogwarts, marking another step toward assembling the full cast for Season 2.

Production on the second season is already underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, even as the series prepares for its first-season premiere later this year.

Rafe Spall Becomes Arthur Weasley

Spall will step into one of the most recognizable roles in the extended Weasley family.

Arthur is Ron’s father and a Ministry of Magic employee whose deep curiosity about the Muggle world quickly endears him to Harry. Chamber of Secrets gives viewers their first real introduction to the Weasley household, including the Burrow (though there will be glimpses in season 1), Arthur’s work at the Ministry, and his less-than-friendly relationship with Lucius Malfoy.

Mark Williams originated the role on screen in the eight-film series.

Spall has worked extensively across film, television, and theater, with credits including Life of Pi, The Big Short, The Ritual, Apple TV’s Trying, and Under Salt Marsh.

His casting also creates a particularly fun connection between the two screen versions of the Wizarding World. Spall’s father, Timothy Spall, portrayed Peter Pettigrew in the original Harry Potter films. That means a generation of Spalls has gone from serving Voldemort to raising Ron Weasley, which is quite the family turnaround.

A New Moaning Myrtle Haunts Hogwarts

Molly Hewitt-Richards will portray Moaning Myrtle (Myrtle Elizabeth Warren), the famously unhappy Hogwarts ghost whose bathroom becomes increasingly important as Harry, Ron, and Hermione investigate the attacks taking place around the school.

Although Myrtle is initially introduced as one of Hogwarts’ more eccentric supernatural residents, her past eventually becomes a crucial part of understanding what happened the last time the Chamber of Secrets was opened.

Hewitt-Richards has previously appeared in the BritBox drama Code of Silence as well as BBC’s Casualty.

Shirley Henderson portrayed Myrtle in the film adaptations of Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire.

Myrtle is also the kind of supporting character who may benefit from HBO’s longer-form approach. The novels have considerably more time to explore her personality, history, and interactions with Harry than the films were able to give her.

Colin Creevey Is Back With His Camera

Jasper Ambrose has been cast as Colin Creevey, the excitable Gryffindor first-year who arrives at Hogwarts fascinated by Harry Potter and eager to photograph seemingly everything around him.

Colin’s constant camera flashes provide some comic relief early in Chamber of Secrets, but his storyline soon becomes tied directly to the darker mystery unfolding at Hogwarts.

Hugh Mitchell played Colin in the 2002 film adaptation, though the character was largely absent from the movie series afterward despite continuing to feature in the books. He was replaced by a character named Nigel in later movies.

Ambrose is among the younger additions to HBO’s growing ensemble and has appeared in The Sheep Detectives.

Bringing Colin back as a recurring Hogwarts student could also give the television adaptation another opportunity to restore material that disappeared during the transition from page to film. Colin remains part of the school community well beyond Harry’s second year, something the original films had little room to explore.

Season 2 Is Taking Shape

The three actors join several other recently announced additions connected to Chamber of Secrets.

Kit Harington has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart, while Bonnie Hill will portray Ginny Weasley, Lenny Rush will play Dobby, and Billy Barratt will appear as the younger Tom Riddle.

Returning members of the central cast include Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. John Lithgow returns as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

HBO renewed Harry Potter for a second season before the first had premiered, allowing work on Chamber of Secrets to move forward quickly and reducing the amount of time its young cast would age between installments. It’s currently rumored (but not confirmed) that filming has started.

Season 1, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026.
