Warwick Davis supports charitable online market
Warwick Davis (Griphook/Professor Flitwick) has been well known to support and help various charities in the past, including the one he co-founded – Little People UK. Now, Davis has once again backed another good and charitable cause. Beacon – based in Ulverston, South Lakeland, Cumbria – is an online shop, but with every sale, a percentage of that money goes to St Mary’s Hospice. The website (which launched yesterday) is similar to eBay in that it allows you to both buy and sell items.
Anybody can create an account and sell any item on the website with a minimum of £1 of the profit from each sale going to the hospice.
The ‘charitable slideometer’ gives the vendor the opportunity to donate as much as 100% of the profits.
In a video, which you can view below, Davis encourages people to go view the website and help out in any way they can.
A spokesperson for St Mary’s Hospice says that Beacon is a “fantastic initiative that we hope people will get on board with and support because it’s a new revenue stream.” Creator of the charity, Ian Gillet, adds that social media will be of help where Beacon is concerned:
The way people are buying and selling in recent years is through social networking sites.
My Beacon combines the best parts of Facebook and eBay to benefit [a local] charity and the community.
