The Fwooper Foundation for Animal Rights Launches
Today, the newly formed Fwooper Foundation launched. The foundation is a Harry Potter fan-based animal rights activist group and a new chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance that hopes to use “the upcoming ‘Fantastic Beasts’ trilogy as a way to get the Potter [c]ommunity excited about helping the ‘fantastic beasts’ in our world.”
The name of the organization comes from Newt Scamander’s book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The Fwooper is “an African bird with extremely vivid plumage in colors of orange, pink, lime green or yellow. The Fwoopers’ song is so powerful that they must be sold with a Silencing Charm on them. The Fwooper Foundation derives their slogan ‘Breaking the Silencing Charm’ from this practice.”
The executive director of the Foundation, Tylor Starr, says:
The Fwooper Foundation believes that the creatures in our world do have a voice and that they are crying out for our help. Unfortunately, society has cast a Silencing Charm over their pleas for rescue, and that is why it is our job to break it. Animals who suffer at the hands of the Dark Arts for our food, clothing, and entertainment are abused in the worst ways imaginable. We all can choose to be like Hermione Granger and help make our world a better place for the real fantastic beasts.
Tylor further says:
We have a lot of great work planned, but we need the ‘Potter’ fandom’s help to decrease world suck for animals. By spreading the word via our Breaking the Silencing Charm campaign, we can begin to sing the Fwooper Foundation’s song of compassion. Together, we can help make the lives of the magical creatures in our world a little better.
