Matthew Lewis is Captain Extraordinary!
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no… wait. It’s Matthew Lewis!
The busy actor has tentatively signed on to voice a comic book hero for a new series, Captain Extraordinary. The team behind the new comic series, Rushfirth Creative IP, came up with the story as a way to bring adventure and amusement to the superhero genre.
Traditionally, comic book heroes were originally created for children. For the most part these have now been hijacked by the adult population, with the mainstream genre becoming ever darker and more violent, with complex mature themes at the core of their storylines. The void left behind is very apparent when one has a young child who thrives on fantasy hero stories but seeks the fun, adventure and amusement aspect as opposed to ‘grounded’ gritty violence. And let’s not forget why ‘comic’ books got their name in the first place, all those years ago – humour is a vital element that binds the whole experience together. It needs to be FUN!!
While the series is currently being shopped to international broadcasters, distributors, and production companies, as long as his schedule allows, Matthew appears to be ready to fill the comic book hero void!
The team has completed a concept trailer to let interested viewers get an idea for the story and the characters, and should the series get the green light, the final result will be a more refined product with fully finished animation. Creative partner Kathryn Rushfirth had this to say about Matthew’s involvement and support of the project:
We were thrilled when Matthew agreed to record the dialogue for our upcoming animatic. We’d love him to voice the character on commission of the show, and despite the fact that he is a very busy and much[-]sought[-]after actor, he is equally as enthusiastic, subject to other commitments making it feasible. Let’s just hope that we can make that work, and whatever happens we’re thrilled that he’s done what he’s done so far – he’s done an extraordinary job.
