The Fifth Year #QuidditchTurnsTen
The Inter-collegiate Quidditch Association became the International Quidditch Association after World Cup III, hosted at Middlebury College for the last time on October 25, 2009. 22 teams competed in the tournament, and it was once again taken out by Middlebury College. There was some cause for concern when Death Eaters attacked the grounds, but they were quickly dispersed to allow play to finish.
The founding of the IQA was a momentum shift in standardizing the sport among participants and expanding its reach to double participation over the next two years. While MentalFloss ran a great article on the many quirks and sporting exceptions that made Quidditch such an amazing playing experience.
Universal Studios also opened the doors to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, FL. One of the attractions, Forbidden Journey, begins by following Harry and Ron on broomsticks through the Hogwarts grounds and over to the Quidditch pitch, that is, before one of the dragons Hagrid is looking after chases them down.
If you could have started or were playing Quidditch five years ago, how different do you think the experience would have been?
