Museum of Modern Art to honor Alfonso Cuarón
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York has announced that they will honor acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón.
Rajendra Roy, the chief curator in MoMA’s film department, said in a statement,
Alfonso Cuarón is the rare auteur who is completely fluent in both the grandest studio-scaled pictures as well as the dirt-road indies. There’s no one else I’d rather take a cinematic voyage with, whether it be to a hidden beach in Mexico or to orbit upper-Earth.
Cuarón’s films Y tu mamá también, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Gravity are all featured in MoMA’s film collection. The film benefit will take place on November 10. The event raises funds for MoMA’s acquisition and preservation of films and helps support film exhibitions. Previous honorees include Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Bigelow, and Baz Luhrmann.
