Are You an Extreme “Harry Potter” Fan?
We are magical. There’s simply no other way to describe the Harry Potter fandom. We have been gifted with so many amazing things to buoy our love of the series to even greater heights than those of any other fandom, but how many of them are you taking advantage of? While not everyone has the means to do everything on this list and we know that the true measure of a Potter fan’s loyalty lies in his or her heart, there are certain things that make a person easily identifiable as an extreme Potter fan.
Owning Multiple Copies
“But this one has a different cover than the others!” you cried, holding the book up to your exasperated mother who had already purchased you two different copies of Prisoner of Azkaban. “I know, but it was the French edition! I can read it in French!” you sighed to yourself a few years later as you purchased Harry Potter à l’école des sorciers from Amazon France. We currently have no less than six full sets in our house, and we’re still buying them.
Owning a Wand… or Several
I have an unfair advantage in this department since I learned how to whittle to make my own, but I was buying wands from the Noble Collection and Alivan’s long before that. What’s more fun than practicing your wand movements in your spare time? And who can forget the interactive wands at the theme park? How can you not buy one?
Having a Potter Collection
From Funko Pop!s to Legos, there has always been a plethora of Potter merchandise to buy, and that doesn’t even include the clothing. I can’t be the only one with at least two full weeks of Potter-related tees in their closet, can I? We’ve all built our own Potter shrine somewhere to hold our candy boxes, figures, and prop replicas, and we feel no shame about it.
Listening to Wizard Rock
Wizard rock was the absolute best thing to come out of the MySpace age, and that’s a fact. Songs about the books by bands like Harry and the Potters? Sign me right up for that, and put those tracks on repeat.
Listening to Podcasts
MuggleNet is home to a few of these snazzy bits of ear candy, and you can always count on them for the perfect Potter discussions. What’s better than theorizing with the SpeakBeasty crew? Who wouldn’t want to reread the books with the Alohomora! team? Why not kick it old-school with your Potter friends on MuggleCast? And let’s not forget those geniuses over at MuggleNet Academia…
Being a Walking Potter Encyclopedia
Honestly, I don’t think we even need J.K. Rowling’s version at this point. We know it all. We’re like a hive mind for Potter. (We’ll still take it, though…)
Attending Harry Potter Conventions
Whether it’s a large-scale con like LeakyCon or a smaller convention like 2016’s Leviosa Con, they house everything from wizard rock concerts to panels about the series and more. Stepping into a con is like leaving the real world for a few days and finding yourself in a realm of the best nerds imaginable. It’s a must for any Potter extremist.
Visiting the Theme Park
A trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter isn’t just a vacation. A trip to the park is a pilgrimage for a Potter fan. This is the cream of the crop with a mug of butterbeer on top, and did I mention the wands work? I finally made the trip with my best friend earlier this month, and we both cried. I waited until we were safely on a ride where no one could see, but I have included a beautiful picture of her tears (with permission) for emphasis. I mean, how lucky are we?
Visiting MuggleNet Daily
I see that look on your face. No, this isn’t a plug. I promise. MuggleNet is the best place to get all of your Potter news, and we also have trivia, recipes, fan fiction, and song parodies. Visiting MuggleNet is part of the daily routine: wake up, brush your teeth, then check MuggleNet – in that order.
When did you know you were an extreme Potter fan? What gave it away?
