“Fantastic Beasts” Picks Up Two Oscar Nominations!
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has already picked up five BAFTA nominations, including one for Outstanding British Film. Today, January 24, with the announcement of the Oscar nominations, we’re delighted to see Fantastic Beasts among the nominees!
The film has been nominated for Costume Design (Colleen Atwood), alongside Allied, Florence Foster Jenkins, Jackie (featuring Potter alumnus Sir John Hurt, who played Garrick Ollivander), and La La Land. Atwood is, of course, responsible for all those gorgeous costumes we love – from Newt’s coat to Queenie’s fabulous dresses! Atwood has previously been nominated for – and won – several BAFTA and Academy Awards, and we’re sure she’s hoping to add to her collection this year.
Fantastic Beasts is also nominated for Production Design (Stuart Craig), alongside Arrival, Hail, Caesar! (starring Potter alumnus Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort), La La Land, and Passengers. It would be hard to imagine the world of Fantastic Beasts without Craig’s designs and sets, so this nomination is certainly well deserved.
Congratulations to all involved with Fantastic Beasts for the nominations, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that the film takes home the awards!
Related nominations include Colin Farrell’s (Graves) film The Lobster, which is nominated for Writing (Original Screenplay). We also extend congratulations to Harry Potter alumni for their roles in other Oscar-nominated films. In addition to Hail Caesar!, Ralph Fiennes was also featured in Kubo and the Two Strings, which is nominated for Visual Effects and Animated Feature Film. In addition to Costume Design, Jackie is nominated for Music (Original Score) and Actress in a Leading Role (Natalie Portman). Lastly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, (featuring Guy Henry, who played Pius Thicknesse) is nominated for Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
The Oscars award ceremony will take place on February 26 and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Make sure to tune in to see if Fantastic Beasts walks away with the awards! You can see the full list of nominations here.
