Warner Bros. Releases Another Set of “Potter” Films – Without Anything Extra
UPDATE 9/23/17:
It’s been several months since we had any updates on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR editions of the eight Harry Potter films, but a release date is now in sight! The first four films, from Sorcerer’s Stone to Goblet of Fire will be released November 7. The final four films are currently set for a release date of March 28, 2018. You can find out more here.
Are any of you adding the new versions of the films to your collections?
Original Post:
Remember when we all lost our minds over the Harry Potter Ultimate Edition DVD sets because they had all the extended versions of the films that were playing on ABC Family (now called Freeform), but then we all cried into our butterbeer because they stopped releasing the extended versions after Chamber of Secrets?
That’s pretty much the feeling we have upon learning that Warner Bros. intends to release all eight Potter films on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in 2017, but without any new extras, special features, or extended versions of the films.
According to BusinessWire, the release of the new Ultra HD Blu-ray versions will happen in a backward order, with the last four films being released in a combo pack on March 28, while the first four films will be released sometime in late 2017. Why they’ve decided to issue these editions in the reverse is a bit of a mystery. All new editions will include “Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the feature films in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray disc with the feature films and special features in HD, and a Digital HD version of the feature films.”
For those who don’t know the benefits of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR editions, here’s some info.
Ultra HD Blu-ray showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before. For the complete 4K Ultra HD experience with HDR, a 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and a high-speed HDMI cable are required.
Additionally, each disc in this new set will feature DTS:X audio.
[DTS:X] replicates and conveys the fluid movement of sound to create a richer experience than previously possible by moving sound to precisely where the mixer placed it. A hallmark of DTS:X immersive audio technology is its ability to adapt to the speaker layout to best fit the individual viewing space by seamlessly transporting sound to and through specific locations within the viewing environment – in front of, behind, above and beside the audience.
All sets will contain the special features and deleted scenes from previous Blu-ray released editions, and not a bit more.
We’re kind of disappointed over here, guys. We might need a Cheering Charm to get over it.
