How to Celebrate 19 Years Later: Where Will You Be on September 1?

by Amy Hogan · May 7, 2017

The very last date in the Harry Potter books to line up with the current Muggle calendar is quickly approaching. September 1, 2017, also known as 19 years later, is less than four months away, and we don’t want you to miss a chance to celebrate. Here are a few ideas for how to ring in 19 years later.

Ride the Hogwarts Express

King’s Cross Station in London will be closed to anyone without a valid ticket on this day, but never fear – there is another Platform 9 3/4 where you can catch a train to Hogwarts. MuggleNet has reserved Diagon Alley in Universal Orlando for an exclusive after-hours event on September 1! Not only do you get to ride the Hogwarts Express and meet talent, but also, what better way to mark the occasion than with other fans?

Go Back to Where It All Began

When I think of the beginning of my Harry Potter journey, of course I think of Platform 9 3/4, but if you can’t travel to Orlando, what about finding a meaningful place a little closer to home? Bookstores instantly come to mind as the perfect place to celebrate this milestone. Head to a bookstore you once camped out in all day to get your hands on those 759 pages. Bring along a copy of Deathly Hallows, find a comfy bit of floor in one of the aisles, and soak up the familiarity of those final words: “All was well.”

Harry Potter House Party

Break out the wizard rock, brew up some butterbeer, and send out your fastest owl with the invitations. Check out our ideas for decorations and recipes and watch the tutorial below for DIY photo booth accessories.

Laid Back Game Night

Between Scene It!, Clue, and Trivial Pursuit, there should be plenty of Harry Potter gaming to keep you going through the night with friends and family. Bake up some cauldron cakes and throw on some of the movie soundtracks for some added flare.

Movie Marathon

You knew it was coming. If none of these other ideas are right for you, you can always count on the old stand-by: Harry Potter movie marathon.

So what are you doing on September 1? We would love to hear your ideas for the big night, so sound off in the comments section!
