Castium Revelio: True Stories, Trailers, and Shakespearean Tragedies
If you’re a fan of films based on true stories, step this way! It’s time for this week in Casting News, where we update you on the latest projects of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts cast and crew!
First comes a look at the stars of the World War II drama Dunkirk, as they are pictured in character on the cover of the latest issue of Total Film. This includes Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart), who plays Commander Bolton:

Alongside Branagh are actors Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, from a cast that also includes “Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, newcomer Fionn Whitehead, James D’Arcy and Harry Styles,” according to Yahoo! Movies UK.
The film focuses on the real-life story of Operation Dynamo – the mass evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk, France, in 1940. It is set for release on July 21 in both the US and UK.
Meanwhile, filming has wrapped in Australia on In Like Flynn, which features Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘s Dan Fogler (Jacob). The Gold Coast Bulletin writes that Fogler, in particular, had some takeaways from the film, a biopic of the early life of actor Errol Flynn. Director Russel Mulcahy is quoted in the article:
Most of the world know we have more than a few creepy crawlies and deadly creatures in Australia, so being on set in the middle of rainforest and in waters off the coast for many of the scenes, gave our Aussie cast and crew the chance to talk up out fatal inhabitants to our overseas cast on set — especially Dan and [actor] William Moseley.
Although these creatures weren’t of the magical and computer-generated variety, Fogler wasn’t fazed:
Dan was especially aware as he put it, that there are a lot of really dangerous creatures in Australia and many right under his feet when filming.
In Like Flynn is currently slated for release in 2018.
While the cast of In Like Flynn found humor in their circumstances, a trailer for Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley)’s latest thriller, now titled American Made, has been released. The project – previously known as Mena – was put on hold after a plane crash during filming in Colombia killed two pilots and injured another.
Actor Tom Cruise also stars in the film, which is “based on the true story of Barry Seal, a US pilot recruited by the CIA to work in a covert drugs operation.” Cruise plays Seal, while Gleeson plays his handler, Monty Schafer. You can watch the trailer below:
Additionally, a trailer has been released for Victoria & Abdul, which features Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore) in the role of Lord Salisbury. News18 provides this description of the film:
The film revolves around the relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul, who was a munshi in her government. Produced by BBC Films and Focus Features, the film depicts his journey on how he became one of the most powerful figures in the court.
Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) recently filmed in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland, for a new television program, Britain’s Coastal Railways with Julie Walters. The East Lothian Courier covered the filming:
The programme, which will be shown on Channel 4, will see the star stopping off in Dunbar, as well as learning about how the coastal railways shaped Britain.
Locally, the program created quite a buzz, and the president of the local Rotary club spoke highly of Walters:
She was very, very friendly with a big beaming smile and only too happy to talk.
Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) was also all smiles in a snap that he posted to his Instagram. He is pictured in his trailer for Ophelia, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet, for which he is currently filming in the Czech Republic.
As an added bonus, Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) fans have a reason to smile, too: Broadway World reports that RLJ Entertainment has acquired the US rights to his thriller The Limehouse Golem, which first premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The film has been called a “whodunit” mystery:
The city of London is gripped with fear as a serial killer – dubbed The Limehouse Golem – is on the loose and leaving cryptic messages written in his victim’s blood. With few leads and increasing public pressure, Scotland Yard assigns the case to Inspector Kildare (Bill Nighy) – a seasoned detective with a troubled past and a sneaking suspicion he’s being set up to fail. Faced with a long list of suspects, including music hall star Dan Leno (Douglas Booth), Kildare must get help from a witness who has legal troubles of her own (Olivia Cooke), so he can stop the murders and bring the killer to justice.
RLJ plans to release the film in theaters and on demand on September 8.
