Castium Revelio: Heroes Come in Dog Form!
MuggleNet’s Casting News is here again, where we provide you with the latest from our Harry Potter alumni! In short, our updates for this week feature heroic dogs and some heroic humans. (Even better? Not only are they on our screens, they also live and work among us!) Let’s take a look!
We had previously reported that Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) would be joining the voice cast of Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero, the first animated motion picture from Fun Academy Motion Pictures. This was confirmed again this week by ScreenDaily:
The film tells the true story of a stray dog named Stubby who was rescued off the streets by a young American soldier and then became a hero of WWI. The dog is still recognized today as the first dog promoted through combat, and stands as the most decorated canine in American history.
This comes as the film’s first teaser trailer was posted by Deadline Hollywood:
Also lending their voices to Sgt. Stubby are actors Logan Lerman and Gérard Depardieu. The film will be scored by Patrick Doyle, who also wrote the original score for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It is set for release on April 13, 2018.
We also have an exclusive look at Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart) in Dunkirk, thanks to Empire. The watermarked image can be viewed on the magazine’s website, where they include the following description:

A 1,500-word feature on the film is included in the latest issue of Empire, which is on newsstands now.
Meanwhile, Marie Claire is praising the second season of The Tunnel, which stars Clémence Poésy (Fleur Delacour). Called The Tunnel: Sabotage, it premiered on PBS in the United States this week. You can watch a clip of the “beyond addictive” drama below:
Fans of the Star Trek franchise will be excited to know that Star Trek: Discovery now has a release date! Empire reports that the show, which includes Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) among its cast members, will be premiering in the US on September 24 of this year! They clarify what this means for fans:
That date refers to the broadcast of the first episode of the new series, which will screen on US network CBS before the second is made available in the States on the All Access streaming service immediately afterwards. Further episodes will only be shown on All Access. And while the first season episode count was upped from 13 to 15 recently, the show will pull a Walking Dead–style trick and screen in two “chapters” of eight episodes each. The second half is due to arrive in January next year.
Those outside of the US will be able to stream each episode on Netflix within 24 hours after it airs on CBS.
Another release date update: Bill Nighy’s (Rufus Scrimgeour) Limehouse Golem has its UK release date set for September 1. Keighley News reports that those who live locally are excited to see Dalton Mills, one of the filming locations, on the big screen:
Stars like Bill Nighy filmed scenes of Victorian life created in various locations inside and outside the 19th century site. An entire floor of the atmospheric Genappe Mill was transformed into a music hall – complete with gold stage and ornate decorations – and a prison. And on the cobbles between the historic mill buildings the production crew created a realistic Victorian street and a harbourside complete with cruise liner.
Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) can be seen in a new television advertisement for UK optical retailer Vision Express. Creativity Online features the ad:
The ad, directed by Kevin Thomas at Thomas Thomas Films, opens on Walters reading a copy of ‘Paddington’ wearing a pair of glasses and remarking: ‘I’ve always been inspired by what I see around me.’
It goes on to recreate scenes from Walters’ early life (such as her as a young girl, imitating a posh lady she sees on TV) and when she worked as a nurse, as well as including real-life footage from some of her most famous moments — accepting a BAFTA for ‘Educating Rita,’ starring in films like ‘Billy Elliott,’ [sic] as she explains how watching people has inspired some of her most famous characters. ‘When you treasure everything you see, you never want to stop looking,’ she concludes, as a waitress approaches her in a nod to her famous ‘Two Soups’ comedy sketch.
David Tennant (Barty Crouch, Jr.) will be featured on a BBC Two Scotland program to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Scottish band the Proclaimers, for which he conducted interviews with the band members themselves. Fansite David-Tennant.com reported on the program, titled Proclaimers: This Is the Story:
Along with contributions from fellow fans including Matt Lucas, Muriel Gray and Craig McLean, David quizzes the Reid brothers about their life and career, from early days around Auctermuchty in Fife, through the release of their seminal album ‘This Is The Story’ in 1987, to the national and international recognition that they enjoy today.
Clips from the show, which airs tonight (Wednesday, June 21) at 9:00 p.m. BST, have been made available by the BBC to those in the UK.
While we’re on the subject of music, Stanislav Yanevski (Viktor Krum) is featured in the music video for a song called “Da nyama nas” (“Да няма нас”) by Bulgarian singer Carlos:
Additionally, actor Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick, Griphook) has been named as the patron of Lincolnshire’s St Barnabas Hospice. Davis previously attended the opening of the hospice in Grantham with his wife, Sam. He expressed that he was “humbled” by the decision:
I am humbled to have been asked to be the patron for St Barnabas Hospice, a charity that can make such a difference to the comfort of an individual and their family at such a difficult time. The environment and support they provide is second to none and a much needed part of the care system in this country.
Finally, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) appears to have wrapped on Ophelia! Having posted updates to his Instagram from filming on location in Prague, Tom has now posted an image of some flowers overlooking the rooftops:
In his caption, he expresses his gratitude:
