Castium Revelio: “Puzzle” Pieces!
Welcome back to MuggleNet’s Casting News, your weekly update on the latest projects from our wonderful wizarding world alumni! In this week’s edition, we have trailers, awards, and even some new music, so let’s get started! Castium Revelio!
First up, we have Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge), who has been cast in actress Romola Garai’s directorial debut, titled Outside. Deadline Hollywood reported the news.
The contained horror, which is also scripted by Garai, tells of a young male refugee traumatised by war who is brought to a dilapidated house in order to care for a woman and her dying mother. Falling in love with the younger woman he begins to suspect she is enslaved to a demon and resolves to fight the creature and rescue the woman he loves…but all is not what it seems.
The film is scheduled to enter production this fall.
Fiona Shaw (Aunt Petunia) will be appearing in a new three-part drama series for the BBC, Mrs Wilson, which has begun filming in Northern Ireland. The series is based on the memoir of the grandmother of lead actress Ruth Wilson, writes IFTN. Also of note is that the producers of the project include some familiar names.
The three-part drama is written by Anna Symon (Indian Summers), directed by Richard Laxton (Mum, Him & Her) and produced by Jackie Larkin (The Strike Series, Stella Days). Executive producers are Ruth Wilson, Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Casual Vacancy, The Strike Series), Neil Blair (The Strike Series, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them), Lucy Richer for the BBC and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE at WGBH Boston.
Director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two Harry Potter films, has said that the latest Gremlins film is “almost definitely” going to be a remake of the 1984 original. Columbus, who wrote the first Gremlins film, was quoted in Metro regarding the project.
Nick Shirm (Zacharias Smith) and his brother, Tom Shirm, have released an EP! Performing as Goldsmoke, the two have released Late Interventions, which is available for streaming on Spotify now! The brothers also perform as members of the band Manifesto.
The trailer for Puzzle, which stars Kelly Macdonald (Helena Ravenclaw) opposite noted Indian film actor Irrfan Khan, has been released! Zoom reported on the film, a remake of a 2009 Argentine film of the same name.
In Puzzle, [Macdonald] plays a housewife who is frustrated with her mundane life and wants to be part of something more meaningful. She finds her calling in solving jigsaw puzzles which leads her to Irrfan’s character Robert, an accomplished businessman who is also into solving jigsaw puzzles. Together the two, [sic] form a team and enter a jigsaw puzzle solving competition.

Puzzle is set to be released in theaters on July 13.
If rumors are true, Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) will be joining a star-studded cast in a drama film about the Irish mob! Titled The Kitchen, the film is set to be produced by New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment. Variety also writes that the film is “based on the comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint,” explaining DC Entertainment’s involvement in the film’s production.
‘The Kitchen’ follows a group of Irish mobsters sent to prison. The wives take over their jailed spouses’ organized crime operation to become the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in 1970s Hell’s Kitchen. ‘The Kitchen’ hits theaters on Sept. 20, 2019.
Gleeson will play Gabriel O’Malley, a Vietnam vet who worked for neighborhood gangsters as a hitman before skipping town. He returns to settle scores when the wives take over.
Finally, the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas special, “Twice Upon a Time,” has been nominated for a Hugo Award! The special features David Bradley (Mr. Filch) as the First Doctor and marks the first appearance of the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. The episode is nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, and you can find the full list of nominees and voting eligibility guidelines here.
