Art for Being an Ally: Emma Watson Shows Support for Trans Kids
In her role as UN Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson has long since been a campaigner for human rights across the globe. Now as the political conversation around gender identity in the United States and other countries is growing, Emma has declared herself an ally to transgender children and teens and has been thanked in the most adorable way possible.
Earlier this month, Emma posted a photo of herself on Twitter wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Trans Rights are Human Rights.” As well as mentioning prominent LGBT charities such as Stonewall UK, Emma also mentioned Mermaids Gender, an organization dedicated to supporting trans kids and their families.

In response, trans kids and their siblings from across the world drew pictures to thank Emma for her support and to show how important visible allies are to them and their families. The pieces of artwork were posted in a thread by blogger, researcher, and activist FierceMum.

Among the messages of thanks and drawings from families were tributes to some of the characters played by Emma. These included the brightest witch of her age, Hermione Granger, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

After all, Harry Potter is a story about love and acceptance, and it’s wonderful that so many wizarding world alumni have brought this message into the Muggle world.
