Sorting Christmas Characters into Hogwarts Houses
Christmas may be over, but these classic film characters are here to stay! While the ghost of Jacob Marley might become a friend of Nearly Headless Nick, and Jack Frost could cause some mischief with Peeves, these Christmas icons never attended Hogwarts. Yet if they did, we know exactly which Houses they’d be Sorted into!
Jack Frost – Ravenclaw
The character Jack Frost has been featured in too many holiday films to count. Usually, he takes the form of a mischievous spirit responsible for maintaining the chilly winter weather. Sometimes Frost is portrayed more as a friendly spirit, such as in the stop-motion movie Jack Frost (1979). Other times, he’s featured as a harmful and spiteful creature in movies, such as in Frosty’s Winter Wonderland (1976). Regardless, Frost would easily be a Ravenclaw. He’s smart and sneaky and known for painting, which makes him creative too. Few Christmas characters are as witty and amusing as Jack Frost!
Hermey the Elf – Gryffindor
While on the outside the lovable elf seems like the classic sidekick, there’s more to him than that! Hermey has some Hufflepuff traits, such as being dedicated to his dream of becoming a dentist, and he’s a steadfast friend. However, Hermey’s bravery and courage are what shine through. Hermey is a Gryffindor at the end of the day. He never fails to come to Rudolph’s rescue! Hermey is definitely the bravest dentist we know.
Jacob Marley – Slytherin
If there’s one thing that we know about this famous ghost, it’s that when he was alive, he was cunning enough to impress Scrooge! Marley knew how to run a business, being ambitious enough to do quite well for himself. Not much is known about what Marley was like when he was alive, but he’s described as arrogant and unkind. Instead of using his superior Slytherin traits and intelligence to help people, Marley ended up as an unhappy ghost. If he ever gets the chance to visit Hogwarts, he would give the Bloody Baron a run for his money!
Susan Walker – Ravenclaw
Susan Walker reminds us all of a young Hermione Granger. She’s tough, witty, and logical in all her thinking. Susan is bright and strong-willed for her age, and this often gets her into trouble. It takes Susan meeting Santa Claus himself for her to learn that even she doesn’t know everything! Susan would ace all her classes at Hogwarts, that is, if she ever believed that magic existed!
Snow Miser – Gryffindor
No one in the history of Christmas is as flashy and as entertaining as Snow Miser. With his reckless teasing of his brother, Heat Miser, and his disregard for rules, Snow Miser is certainly a Gryffindor. Although Snow Miser is self-centered and only focuses on having fun, he is loyal to his friends and he’s begrudgingly kind. Although Snow Miser would likely never leave his snowy palace, he could be persuaded to perform musical numbers at the Hogwarts start-of-term feast.
Heat Miser – Slytherin
Even though both Miser brothers are stubborn and arrogant, Heat Miser is even more unpleasant. Heat Miser prefers to stew and build up hatred for his popular brother. Heat Miser keeps to himself, and he’s rude to anyone who visits him. Worst of all, he greedily covets the North Pole. Like other Slytherins, Heat Miser is extremely ambitious. He wants total weather domination, and he’s confident in his own fire and heat abilities. We wouldn’t want Heat Miser to attend Hogwarts and ruin everyone’s fun, but he would add some warmth to the chilly Slytherin common room.
The Winter Warlock – Ravenclaw
The Winter Warlock from the beloved classic Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town (1970) is the perfect example of the worst that can happen when a Ravenclaw allows their intelligence to get the best of them. At the start of the movie, the Winter Warlock shuts himself away from the world to focus on his dark magic. However, the Winter Warlock eventually changes his ways and uses his wisdom to assist a young Kris Kringle. Similar to most Ravenclaws, the Warlock is introverted, methodical, clever, and his smarts end up saving the day. If Professor Flitwick ever wants to retire, he should ask the Winter Warlock to step in as head of Ravenclaw house.
Clarence Odbody – Hufflepuff
Clarence is the heartwarming angel sent to assist the character of George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). Clarence is dedicated to helping George find happiness in his life. While Clarence isn’t the smartest or cleverest angel, he’s loyal and committed to doing the right thing. He values friendship and love, and that’s what makes Clarence a Hufflepuff. Above all, he’s patient, since Clarence has waited for many years to earn his angel wings. We can see Clarence attending Hogwarts for a few years and then working part-time as a History of Magic professor. His thoughtful and caring personality would make him a perfect fit at Hogwarts!
