“Cursed Child” Cast Members to Appear at “Red Bucket Follies” Event
Cast members from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will appear at the Red Bucket Follies culminating event dedicated to the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs charity. Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger), Poppy Miller (Ginny Weasley), and Paul Thornley (Ron Weasley) are all set to make guest appearances at the extravaganza, which will feature acts, skits, and songs from various guests.
The festivities will take place after six weeks of fundraising, with the final event taking place December 3–4 at New Amsterdam Theatre.
Popular Broadway shows such asThe Lion King, Chicago, Frozen, Hamilton, and Wicked are scheduled to be performed across the two days. The show will also include a number by Chaz Wolcott in a tribute to the eponymous red collection buckets alongside a number to honor the national touring shows that have participated in the year’s fundraising efforts from Karla Puno Garcia.
Furthermore, Tuesday’s performance will also feature an awards ceremony with an extensive panel of judges deciding the winners.
The show was previously known as Gypsy of the Year but was renamed to Red Bucket Follies in light of perceived insensitivity to the Roma community. The new name was chosen to reference the iconic red buckets that lined the lobbies of theaters to collect the donations.
Donations on behalf of Broadway Cares have been collected since October 19 by casts, crews, and other volunteers. The money raised will go toward providing meals, emergency financial assistance, medication, and more to the most vulnerable in society.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs Executive Director Tom Viola recognizes that its the connection between the shows involved and their audiences that has made the movement such a runaway success.
We’ve striven to be sure that the appeals never feel heavy-handed. We want them to be an enthusiastic and gracious extension of the curtain call, a chance for the cast to ask the audience to do some good for others by sharing their good fortune. Each campaign raises millions of dollars because the actors deliver the message with such commitment and often times [sic] great humor with, of course, the amazing support of the entire company—from the crew backstage, musicians in the pit and front-of-house staff.
Last year, 56 Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national tours managed to raise $5.6 million to go toward these vital causes, helping thousands of people.
With $76 million raised since its inception in 1989, Red Bucket Follies will be hoping to raise even more than last year and help a greater number of people than ever before.
Tickets are available now from $30 for both the Monday and Tuesday shows!
