Review: Harry Potter™ Collectible Gifts from Hallmark!
Harry Potter fans are no stranger to the Harry Potter™ Hallmark Ornament Keepsakes from Hallmark, but this year, fans are rejoicing at the expansion of the collection, which will include home decor, ceramics, plush, apparel, and greeting cards. We brought you news of the new offerings within the collection, but now we’ve actually gotten our hands on some of the magical items, and let’s just say, we’ve been enchanted!
Whether you are a collector or a fan who simply likes to represent their House pride, Hallmark’s wizarding world offerings are widely varied and appeal to a broad audience within the fandom. A search for “Harry Potter” on the Hallmark site will reveal over 60 items, and with so much to choose from at such reasonable prices, your Gringotts vault won’t likely miss the coins you take to pay for your collecting habit.
For this review, I received a full set of the Harry Potter™ Soup Mugs, each featuring a newer design of the House crest, including the first letter of the House as the handle of the mug. While the outside of the ceramic mug is white with a gold-detailed crest and raised letters that span the entire outside of the mug to spell out the House name, the inside of the mug is glazed with the House color.
What I loved most about these mugs is that while they are quite heavy, weighing in at 22 ounces, the handles and the shape of the mug are perfect to rest in your hands as you sip your drink of choice from its depths. The mug actually feels good and sturdy in your hands when in use, and bonus: These mugs are dishwasher safe! That being said, I’m a bit careful with all of my merch, so I’ll be handwashing these mugs to make sure they last as long as possible.
In addition to the Soup Mugs, I also received the Harry Potter™ Golden Snitch™ Coffee Mug. I was really excited when I opened this one, as it features some really great detail on the outside of the mug, which makes you feel as though you just won a Quidditch match at Hogwarts by catching the Golden Snitch!
Unlike with the ceramic mugs, this is a hand-wash only situation, because the outside of the mug is finished with gold plating. It’s also incredibly fun that the designers literally rounded off the Snitch to ensure you get the feel of the real deal by making this mug two pieces, extending the design of the Snitch to a curved lid that leaves a small resting space for your stirring spoon.
Finally, I received some wonderfully cozy Harry Potter™ Novelty Socks that featured the Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff Houses (I didn’t get a pair of Slytherin socks, which was a real bummer since that is my Hogwarts House, but those are available for purchase as well). Each pair of crew socks is mismatched on purpose, featuring character traits and the animal that represents each House; plus, each pair has reinforced heels and toes. Gryffindor has one red and one gold sock, both featuring a strong lion, Ravenclaw has one blue and one gray sock, both featuring the licensed version of the raven as the symbol of Ravenclaw House, and the Hufflepuff socks are gold and gray, featuring the badger we’ve come to know and love.
While one size fits most, often times I have found that socks of this nature either are too tight or fit awkwardly in the toe area, or the material is much too thin to really show off the design. None of that is true for these socks, which are soft to the touch and thick enough that the design stays intact even with some stretching of the material. These socks are so comfortable as well, you’ll want to wear them everywhere you go!
Truth be told, I’m so pleased with the items I received for review, and I have a feeling I will be shoving my wallet at Hallmark this year because the entire collection seems to be a must-have for me. The itty bittys® Harry Potter™ Snape™ has completely overtaken my willpower to keep to my monthly budget, and I know that this is going to be my first purchase when I get my next paycheck, so thanks a lot, Hallmark! Take all my Galleons and send me all the things, already!
