Hogwarts Acceptance Letter, Howler Props Among Items Up for Auction
Pieces of Harry Potter memorabilia occasionally make their way to auction houses, and one upcoming auction in London could be your chance to own some of the movie magic! The Dunfermline Press reports that Prop Store will be auctioning off two original props from the Harry Potter films from September 30 through October 1 at the annual Entertainment Memorabilia Auction.
There are eight Harry Potter items listed as being up for auction, including multiple signed books. These include copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban signed by members of the films’ casts, as well as a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows signed by none other than J.K. Rowling.
Two wand boxes from Ollivanders from the first film are also up for auction, as are one of Harry’s many Hogwarts acceptance letters (from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) and Ron’s Howler from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
As we reported back in 2017, a Hogwarts letter and a Howler auctioned off at that year’s Prop Store auction sold for £30,000 and £7,500, respectively!
If you have a few Galleons to spend (or perhaps, the equivalent Muggle currency), you can bid in a number of ways. As explained on the auction’s website, bidding will take place live, online, by phone, and by absentee bidding.
A two-week preview exhibition of over 250 of the lots available in the Entertainment Memorabilia Auction is being held at the ODEON BFI IMAX in London’s Waterloo. The exhibition is free to enter and is open now until October 1; it runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
