Expecto Equality: Support the Harry Potter Alliance This Fall

For 14 years, the Harry Potter Alliance has been turning Potter fans into activists dedicated to creating a more magical future. Most recently, the organization has advocated for children’s literacy with its tenth annual book drive and raised funds and awareness through the Happy Birthday Harry 5K virtual running race.

This fall, the HPA has launched its Expecto Equality fundraiser, which will allow the nonprofit to continue its work training young activists, supporting immigrants, and fighting against climate change. Funds raised this fall will go toward the creation of specialized resources and toolkits, supporting free training through Wizard Activist School, and in-person live training events.

 

 

The HPA’s Managing Director, Katie Bowers, reminded Potter fans that it’s through their donations and participation in local HPA chapters that the magical work of the nonprofit can continue:

Fundraisers like Expecto Equality support staff time, resource development, and our web and conference presences – and that allows us to do huge things! Donating to the HPA through Expecto Equality means you believe in a more just and magical future. This fall, in addition to supporting dozens of actions to show up for immigrants and to fight for the climate, we are on track to train over 1,000 young activists this year! That’s a thousand new heroes, hitting the ground running and working for change in their communities.

To help the HPA reach its goal of $20,000 by October 31, a number of perks have been made available, including signed books, enamel pins, T-shirts, wizard rock merchandise, and event opportunities. HARRY POTTER ALLIANCE LAUNCHES FALL FUNDRAISER, EXPECTO EQUALITY!

The Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) is launching Expecto Equality, a fundraiser to support [its] year[-]round commitment to drive change. The fundraiser will last until October 30th [sic] and features perks from partners like signed books from Neil Gaiman and Jackson Bird, brand[-]new art from Risa Rodil, unique perks from Emily Graslie, Preeti Chhibber, Sarah Sterling, [and] Harry and the Potters, exclusive event opportunities from LeakyCon and a wellness guide from Heroine Training as well as exclusive merchandise like shirts, pins and a fanny pack.

This fundraiser will support the organization’s mission, as [it] continue[s] to push fans to become passionate, engaged lifetime activists by creating an interconnected community of activism and story experts who reclaim and rewrite the story of civic engagement around the world. Some of the HPA’s goals for this fall include free trainings through Wizard Activist School, immigration advocacy action, specialized toolkits, resources and mobilization for [c]limate [c]Change actions and live trainings at events.

For 14 years, the HPA has proven the power of story to inspire and drive change. Today, dark forces tell stories designed to drive fear, hate, and hopelessness. The HPA will fight back around the world by helping fans reclaim the power of story and make a major impact in communities, in the streets, and at the ballot box throughout the rest of the year and into 2020.

As a fan-led nonprofit, the HPA relies almost entirely on donations. For every $1,500 raised, the HPA will be able to keep their world-class trainings and campaigns going for one week. Once the $20,000 goal is met, they will be able to commit to 13 weeks of meaningful action.
