UPDATED: “Guns Akimbo” Drops Official Trailer and Release Date
Jason Lei Howden’s Guns Akimbo now has a release date! The film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Samara Weaving, Rhys Darby, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Ned Dennehy, is coming out on February 28, 2020.
Guns Akimbo made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019. While the initial reviews for the movie at TIFF were good overall, Rotten Tomatoes has since given it a score of 64% with reviews from 22 critics.
With just a few weeks until the movie’s public release, the trailer has also been posted online.
Miles (played by Daniel Radcliffe), a mild-mannered and not-very-spontaneous “nobody,” is kidnapped by Skizm and has to fight to the death in a livestreamed competition. Skizm is the violent gaming gang that runs the Internet’s most sensational fight club. Miles now has 24 hours to find and kill another competitor, Nix (played by Samara Weaving), before he himself becomes a victim of Skizm’s schemes.
His only weapons are the two guns that have been bolted into his hands, which makes for some interesting scenarios. Watching Miles struggle to put on pants and open a door with guns for hands is peak comedy.
Miles and Nix start a sort of cat and mouse chase through the city, with Miles trying to find Nix and strike a deal that could save his life. On the other hand, Nix is ready to kill Miles to ensure her place as a top killer in Skizm’s game.
Nix isn’t the only obstacle in Miles’s way – other competitors, police, the leaders of Skizm, and a crazed homeless man (played by Rhys Darby) are making things that much harder for Miles to find a way to get through the game unscathed.
Can Miles fight his way to safety?

UPDATE (February 11):
A second trailer for Guns Akimbo has since been released. The second trailer extends some of the action hinted at in the first trailer and adds to the comedic elements of the movie. A brand-new scene shows Miles trying to steal a car, which is a bad idea in normal circumstances but proves an even worse idea now that he has guns for hands. Check out the trailer below.
