Emma Watson Joins Kering’s Board of Directors to Advocate for Sustainable Fashion
Emma Watson is undeniably one of the leading activists of our age. Just like her on-screen character in the Harry Potter movies, Hermione Granger, Watson stands at the forefront of feminism and environmentalism.
Now, she joins French luxury group Kering’s board of directors to lead the charge in advocating for sustainable fashion practices. The group – the owner of labels including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen – made the announcement on its website on June 16. Emma was appointed to the board of directors alongside business executive Jean Liu and banker Tidjane Thiam, and she was also named Chair of the Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors.
François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive officer of Kering, commented on the new additions to the group’s board of directors:
I am delighted to welcome Jean Liu, Tidjane Thiam and Emma Watson to our Board of Directors. Their respective knowledge and competences, and the multiplicity of their backgrounds and perspectives, will be invaluable additions to Kering’s Board of Directors. The collective intelligence that comes from diverse points of view and the richness of different experiences are crucial to the future of our organization. I am proud to add such impressive talents to the team.
Emma has been vocal about turning talk into action. Beyond wearing outfits that feature sustainable garments, she has worked with Good on You, an application that rates the sustainability of different fashion brands, and partnered with thredUP to encourage others to find out the carbon footprint of their fashion choices. We can’t wait to learn more about her work with Kering!
