Rupert Grint Makes Cameo Appearance in Music Video for M. Night Shyamalan’s Daughter
In a pleasant and unexpected surprise, Harry Potter‘s Rupert Grint was briefly seen in the music video for the song “The Sky Cries,” which is featured in Season 2 of Servant. The track was written and recorded by Saleka, daughter of Servant executive producer and director M. Night Shyamalan.
In the music video, which was also directed by Shyamalan, Saleka plays a seemingly ethereal figure named Vivian Dale, who dances throughout the home of Dorothy and Sean Turner, the couple at the center of Servant. At the end of the video, it’s discovered that the song that Vivian performed was actually a vinyl record being played by nanny Leanne Grayson (Nell Tiger Free) accompanied by Rupert’s Julian Pearce. Julian inquires about the song, to which Leanne explains that she simply “found them” there. Julian concludes that it must have belonged to their mother. Leanne dreamily ponders about how music is not meant to be listened to: “We’re not supposed to listen to music. They say it’s a dark temptation, but I don’t understand that. Feels like light to me.” The music video abruptly ends after Leanne’s commentary on music.
After becoming a fan of Season 1 of Servant, Saleka wrote and recorded “The Sky Cries” exclusively for the hit Apple TV+ series. Though Saleka tends to favor R&B music, she explains that she was drawn to “conceptualize the sound” after watching Season 1, feeling that the thematic and tonal elements of the series “[stick] with you.” The tune was eventually played in Season 2, Episode 8 of Servant, titled “Loveshack.” As soulful as the song is, it’s very likely that Mrs. Weasley would have approved of it, given her love of jazz singer Celestina Warbeck.
Since the track was directly inspired by the series, it stands to reason that the music video was meant to be an extension of the series and mimic the look and feel of the show as well, which was successfully done with M. Night Shyamalan’s haunting visual storytelling.

Even more surprising, this is not Rupert’s first appearance in a music video. After the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Rupert appeared in an expanded role in the music video for Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House,” poking fun at the ongoing joke about their alleged resemblance. The music video for “The Sky Cries” is just another collaboration between Grint and Shyamalan, who both seem to deeply respect one another as indicated recently when Shyamalan interviewed Grint for Interview magazine.
