Events Roundup: Explore Edinburgh, Laugh at Ordinary Movies, and Join a Deep Discussion
We’re so happy that there is never a shortage of Harry Potter–themed things to do. It just means there’s more fun to be had during this beautiful spring season. With that in mind, let’s get started with this week’s Events Roundup.
Explore Edinburgh’s Harry Potter Attractions
Edinburgh, Scotland, is said to be a significant source of inspiration when the Harry Potter series was being written. The shop formerly known as Nicholson’s Cafe (now named Spoon) and the Elephant Cafe are famed for being the author’s writing spots. Enjoy a coffee, and drink in the inspiration. The Potter trail tour takes guests by George Heriot’s School and Victoria Street, which are said to have inspired Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley, respectively. Add these stops and more magical experiences to your list when you make your way to Edinburgh.
Mesa Movie Mayhem
Movies are objectively more fun when you can go to a theater, sit in the dark, and enjoy some popcorn with friends. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be the feature film of the evening at Mesa Movie Mayhem in Mesa, Arizona, on Saturday, May 22. A trivia and costume contest will be available for guests before the movie starts. Dress in your best robes to win! Snacks will be available to purchase, and the movie starts promptly at 8:00 p.m. MST. More information about times and tickets is available on the event website.
Harry Potter and Wizard Supremacy: A Discussion
Supremecy is an undeniable theme throughout the Harry Potter series, and we think it’s worth talking about. A discussion about the kinds of prejudice that are seen in the books and movies will be held every Tuesday from June 1 through August 10. Explore several topics, including Voldemort and the fear he ignites, house-elves and their standing, intersectionality, and so much more. Tickets are $395 for the full ten weeks, but scholarship options are available. More information can be found on the event website.
Fantastic Beasts and Mythical Creatures
Appeer Community Interest Company is hosting a magical event to explore the magical beasts within the wizarding world. This event is catered exclusively to autistic and neurodiverse girls aged 7 through 12 and will be hosted on June 2 at 9:00 a.m PDT. Attendees will be able to draw and create their own magical creatures with the instructor, Kris. The event will be held online, and tickets start at £5. More information can be found on the event website.
Front Row Film Roast
Front Row Film Roast is comedy like you’ve never seen before. Join a comedic crew as they roast Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on June 5 at 6:00 p.m. PDT. They’ll rip on everything that’s worth ripping on and maybe even include a drinking game so wizards over the age of 21 can have a little more fun. Follow along on the Front Row Film Roast Twitch page as they stream the movie. The event is free to watch on Twitch. More information can be found on the event website.
Those are all the events we have for you in this week’s Events Roundup. Are you planning on attending any of these fun things? Drop us a line and let us know how they went!
If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.
